Allissa Marquez, PhD

Bachelors in Psychology- San Diego State University

Masters in Legal Studies- University of Nebraska Lincoln

Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology- University of Nebraska

Licensed Psychologist in North Carolina

In 2013, Dr. Marquez earned her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during which she also completed my internship at the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) in Butner, North Carolina.  She joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons after graduation with an appointment at United States Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois, where she provided rehabilitative treatment.  In 2016, Dr. Marquez returned to FCC Butner as a forensic psychologist and, later, as a general practitioner.  During the years of the Covid pandemic, she moonlighted as a correctional officer, working the units, perimeter patrol, compound security, and the quarantine observation unit.

Since Dr. Marquez opened Scars and Stripes Therapeutics & Consulting PLLC in 2023, she has brought her unique experiences in locked and inpatient settings to help community clients better understand diagnoses and avoid inappropriate labels that discourage them.  Instead, she takes a more practical approach with examining the many areas of your life that contribute to who you are and the problems you are working on.  She focuses on helping clients harness their power to make changes in their daily life and compassionately view themselves as a work in progress.  Likewise, Dr. Marquez's background has often paired well with military, law enforcement, first responder, and other government workers, who appreciate a provider with shared or overlapping work culture and experiences.

"Change doesn't begin when we get knocked on our ass.  It begins the moment we decide to get back up on our own feet."
